If customers are leaving you a message on your website then you want to know that the messages are getting safely to your in box. Particularly if you are using a plug-in to give you a nice contacts page.
Checking email delivery is bit obvious but very important, you would be surprised how often it is never checked.
This article is part of a series on regular website maintenance that you can do yourself.
I always make this test one of the last ones that I do so that if anything has a been broken during the upgrade of wordpress core, plugin or database maintenance I will know about it before any visitor to my site.
It would be terrible for that once in a lifetime opportunity to miss you because your nice contact page is broken and not delivering emails to your in box properly.
So send yourself a message from your contact form! Also, click on any email address links and make sure that your email program opens properly. To make an email address into a link simply click the link tool and put “mailto://” instead of “http://” in front of the email address. Eg mailto://email@example.com
This won’t guarantee that your customer’s email program will open because it depends on their individual computer, but it gives you the best possible chance of success.
